Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate, announced her departure from the Democratic Party on Tuesday, calling it a "elitist cabal."

Gabbard, who will leave the House in 2021, attacked the institution in a nearly 30-minute video posted to her YouTube account. She did not, however, announce plans to join the Republican Party or any other political party.

"I can no longer remain a member of today's Democratic Party, which is now completely controlled by an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism," Gabbard said in a Twitter excerpt.

She went on to urge other moderate Democrats to follow her lead.

"I believe in a government that is run by, for, and for the people. Unfortunately, the Democratic Party of today does not. Instead, it represents a government of, by, and for the powerful elite "She went on. "I'm inviting my fellow reasonable, independent-minded Democrats to join me in leaving the Democratic Party."

Gabbard's announcement served as the first episode of her new podcast, the Tusli Gabbard Show.

Gabbard has grown increasingly estranged from the Democratic establishment since her failed presidential primary bid in 2020. She has also become a vocal critic of President Biden, accusing him of "pouring fuel on the flames" of the country's division.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich praised Tulsi for abandoning the Democrats in a Fox News statement on Tuesday. He claimed she is one of many Americans who used to vote blue but now find the Democrats unrecognizable.

Gabbard has always been something of an outlier "Gingrich stated this. "And I believe that when she ran for president, she realized how isolated she was from the vast majority of the Democratic Party, which is now, to be honest, a pretty strange party.... I believe you are noticing this shift. And we've certainly seen a significant shift toward the Republican Party among Latinos as a result of the Democratic Party's stranger policies.
